The rapid evolution of global health challenges and technological advancements necessitates a continuous re-evaluation of health science education to equip future professionals with relevant skills. Particularly in sub-Saharan Africa, health systems face unique pressures, demanding graduates who are not only clinically proficient but also innovative, entrepreneurial, and capable leaders. This imperative underscores the growing need for curricula that integrate these critical 21st-century competencies, a challenge many institutions, including Moi University, are actively addressing. The Moi University- Africa Health Collaborative in partnership with Mastercard Foundation, facilitated a joint workshop between the College of Health Sciences (CHS) and the School of Business and Economics in Kisumu from December 1st to 5th, 2025. The theme of the workshop was “Re-imagining Health Science Education through curricula review to integrate innovation, entrepreneurship and Leadership”.

The event brought together stakeholders from academia, industry, regulators, and alumni to prioritize curriculum improvements. Key attendees included Deans, Directors, Chairs of Departments, alumni, regulatory bodies, industry and faculty from Moi University. The workshop aimed to align the curricula with innovation, entrepreneurship, and leadership components, making it more relevant to the job market. Discussions highlighted gaps in the curriculum and the need for mentorship, innovative teaching, and marketing to attract more students. The curricula reviewed included BSc. Public Health, BSc. Health Informatics, Master of Business Administration, Master of Science in Logistics and Supplies and the Community-Based Education and Service course (COBES). The workshop’s deliverables are revised curricula incorporating new teaching and learning methodologies, innovative technologies, leadership, and entrepreneurship.
