Student Council
The Student Council (SC) comprises the positions of Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, Secretary General, Treasurer, Academics Secretary, Co-Curricular Activities Secretary, and Special Needs & Social Affairs Secretary, as stipulated in the Moi University Students Organization Constitution.
The current (37th) Student Council, sworn-in in 2024, along with the holders of the respective positions, is presented in the table below

Students’ Governance Structures
Mandate of Student Council
The Students’ Council shall have the authority and responsibility provided for in this Constitution and in particular shall: –
- be responsible for the day-to-day running of MUSO;
- implement decisions of the Congress;
- have powers to deal with emergency matters, but shall report to Congress at the next meeting;
- ensure that accurate records of the properties, income, liabilities and expenses of MUSO are well kept together with other documents and books of accounts;
- announce any vacant position in the Students‟ Governing Council between Annual General Meetings and report to the Congress for advertisement and subsequent elections;
- table before the Annual General Meeting a statement of financial position and financial statement of accounts of MUSO.
- ensure that all members uphold this Constitution, it’s by-laws, rules and regulations.
- have two members of the Students’ Council entitled to attend Senate as long as the deliberations of the Senate are not touching on matters which are considered by the Chairperson of Senate to be confidential or which relate to examinations, the general discipline of students, and other related matters as shall be determined by the Chairperson of the Senate;
- oversee and plan, in consultation with the Senate, Students’ activities for the promotion of academic, spiritual, moral, harmonious communal life and social well-being of all students;
- draw to the attention of the appropriate authorities, where necessary, special needs from particular students;
- offer suggestions to the Senate or its equivalent on matters affecting the well-being of students; and
- undertake such other functions as provided for in this Constitution
Moi University Student Organization (MUSO)
As stipulated in the Moi University Statutes and Act, there shall be a Student Organization of the University to which all full-time University undergraduate students shall belong.
The Student Organization shall have the following functions—
- to make, subject to the approval of Senate, rules governing the day to day conduct of the affairs of the Student Organization, its procedure and the conduct of the members thereof and the consequences of any breach of such rules.
- to make representations to Council or Senate on any matter.
- to discuss and declare an opinion upon any matter affecting the students and to transmit such opinion to Council or Senate as appropriate.
- The method of election of officers of the Students’ Organization, and subject to paragraph 3(b), the constitution, powers and functions of the Students’ Organization shall be prescribed in the regulations.
- The regulations may authorize the Student Organization to provide or assist in the provision of services for the general welfare of the student body
